As a professor and scholar of Hispanic studies, I am interested in examining, from a humanistic perspective, the role of science and technology in our lives and in the ways we relate to other living and non-living beings. This interest has taken me to conduct research and teach courses on Latin American ecocriticism, Spanish speculative fiction, Hispanic health humanities, and Spanish for STEM, among others. My work has appeared in various journals, and I recently published the book Medicine, Power, and the Authoritarian Regime in Hispanic Literature (Routledge, 2022).
I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and have been a visiting professor at Beloit College and a visiting researcher at the State University of New York at Albany. Beyond the classroom, I am deeply committed to the transformative power of a liberal arts education. As an academic leader, I work to expand student access to these opportunities by developing sustainable administrative models that foster both intellectual growth and responsible resource stewardship.
Currently, I serve as a professor of Spanish and the Associate Dean of the Faculty for Infrastructure, Sponsored Research, and Faculty Affairs at Skidmore College.
Como profesor e investigador de estudios hispánicos, estoy interesado en examinar, desde una perspectiva humanista, el papel de la ciencia y la tecnología en nuestras vidas y en las formas en que nos relacionamos con otros seres vivos y no vivos. Este interés me ha llevado a realizar investigaciones e impartir cursos en campos que incluyen la ecocrítica latinoamericana, la ficción especulativa española, las humanidades de la salud en el mundo de habla hispana y el español para las ciencias y la tecnología, entre otros. Mis trabajos han aparecido en varias revistas académicas, y recientemente publiqué el libro Medicine, Power, and the Authoritarian Regime in Hispanic Literature (Routledge, 2022).
Obtuve mi doctorado en la Universidad de Wisconsin-Madison y he sido profesor visitante en Beloit College e investigador visitante en la Universidad Estatal de Nueva York en Albany.
